Impact of El Niño on Planting Timelines and Yields

This has been a very weird weather year!

FBN's Data Science team recently looked at the impact of El Niño and La Niña events on historical crop yields and planting dates.

Key findings of the report include:

Planting Dates Adjustments:

- Rice and Wheat: Expect to plant earlier.

- Corn and Soybeans: Planting dates remain unchanged.

Yield Expectations:

- Corn, Wheat, and Soybeans: Anticipate yield increases (+5 bu/acre for corn and wheat, +3 bu/acre for soybeans).

- Rice: Prepare for a slight decrease in yield

As we transition from El Niño to La Niña later in the season, staying informed and prepared for these shifts is key.
